Bagged Decision Tree vs. Random Forest

If asked to grow a bagged decision tree and use for each tree a random subset of m features (where m=sqrt(p), with p the total number of
variables) on the training set,
would that not be the same things as growing a Random Forest?

Dear student,

No. In random forest, a subset of features is selected at each node of each tree, and not just at each tree.
